The Calumet Street Tragedy
On the afternoon of June 18, emergency responders from multiple jurisdictions were dispatched to a severe and complex traffic accident at the intersection of the northbound WI 441 off-ramp and E. Calumet Street.
According to official investigative reports released by the Appleton Police Department, a heavy-duty wrecker towing a loaded dump truck exited the off-ramp at approximately 12:00 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the median. The maneuver caused the loaded dump truck to become detached and roll over, ultimately colliding directly with Vicki’s vehicle, which was stopped in westbound traffic.
Despite the rapid response and lifesaving efforts attempted by first responders at the scene, Vicki succumbed to the severe injuries sustained in the impact.
